Damp Homes and Ventilation in West Auckland
Every West Auckland local board reported more damp homes than most of the city at the 2023 Census. In the Waitākere Ranges area, 25.2% of occupied homes were damp always or sometimes. Henderson-Massey and Whau were both at 23.2%. In the Howick area on the other side of the city, the figure was 15.3%.
Mould follows damp. Whau reported mould larger than an A4 sheet in 21.0% of homes, and Henderson-Massey in 20.0%. Most of that moisture starts in the bathroom and the laundry.
